Åland United värvar nederländsk mittback

Åland United are strengthening their defensive line for the next two years with the signing of Dutch centre-back Cato Pijnacker Hordijk. The 23-year-old defender joins from Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag and will bolster Åland United’s back line during the 2026 and 2027 seasons.

Sporting Director Pierre Persson is very pleased that the transfer is now complete:

“It has been a long journey, and I’m very pleased that we have finally reached an agreement. Cato was a regular starter at ADO Den Haag during the 2024/25 season, but found herself somewhat caught in between ahead of this season. That created an opportunity for us to complete a transfer to Åland United. She arrives in full match fitness — Cato started in the most recent matches against PSV Eindhoven and FC Twente and delivered strong performances. With Cato, we are adding a centre-back educated in Dutch football: a modern, brave and aggressive defender who will contribute quality in our build-up play, strong game intelligence, and who also possesses clear leadership qualities.”

Cato herself is excited to come to Åland and begin her time with the club:
